Robert “Dale” Lake, 79, of Pampa, went home to be with his loving wife and Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in Pampa. He entered this life on September 18, 1939 in Clovis, California to Hubert and Opal Lake.

Dale proudly served his beloved country in the United States Navy on both the USS Sumner and the USS Isherwood as a Fireman Apprentice. Shortly after his return from the service, he met the absolute love of his life, Karen Stansel. They married on June 14, 1963 in Pampa and enjoyed, adored and antagonized each other for a glorious 55 years at the time of Karen’s passing in 2018. Dale always provided for his family and had worked as a Gas Tester for 30 years for Texaco at his time of retirement. Due to his meager upbringing, he definitely understood the value of the dollar. So much so, that he had a “Book of Life Stories” in which he kept very detailed records pertaining to kids or grandkids borrowing something as well as returning it in order to hold them accountable and teach them a lesson of responsibility. Dale was a very active youngster. He played on his high school football and baseball teams as well as participating on a stock car racing team. He loved fishing, golfing and watching Nascar races. Dale was definitely his own person and very independent – to the point of being quite cantankerous and even stubborn at times, but he was an amazing husband, dad, pawpaw and friend that will be immensely missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen Lake and a great-grandson, Cayden.

Those left behind to cherish their many memories are a son, Bo Lake and wife Kerri of Pampa; three daughters, Kim Powell and fiancé Gabriel Castro, Shellie Porter and husband Lance, Kellie Lake all of Pampa; brother, Ray Lake and wife Sandra of Benbrook, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Jason, Tosha, Sydnee, Rebecca, Brett, Tye, Justin, Hannah, Alex, Matthew, Jared, Makayla and Christian; 10 great-grandchildren, Arion, Blake, Cheyenne, Logan, Zane, Alexis, J.J., Iden, Halleigh and Langston; nephews, Lannie and wife Sheri of Mansfield, Dannie and wife Rebecca of Amarillo, Robbie and wife Doris of Benbrook and his very favorite Physical Therapist, Meredith Wood.

The family would like to express their sincerest and heartfelt thank you to the staff of Pampa Nursing Center, especially Kimberly McGill, Elia, Martha, Maria, Veronica, Shelby, Andrea, Kathy and Stephanie. We cannot express enough our gratitude for the loving care you took of our daddy.

Per Dale’s wishes, no services are scheduled and the family has entrusted the cremation care of their precious loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
