Irene Magdalene Lang Langehennig was born January 22, 1921, to Hilmar Arnold Lang Sr. and Minnie Bertha Reinhardt Lang in Fredericksburg, Texas. She was baptized on May 22, 1921, and confirmed on April 14, 1935 in Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg by Reverend F.A. Bracher. She was married to Victor Wesley Langehennig on August 1, 1940, in St. John’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas by Reverend August L. Wolff.
She passed away on December 6, 2017 at the age of 96 years and 11 months.
Irene lived in Katy since 1950 when her husband was transferred by Texas New Mexico Pipeline. Irene worked for many years for Dube’s Grocery Store. When her daughter Kaye was born, Irene chose to stay home to care for her. During this period Irene provided child care for numerous friends and neighbors. In 1976 Irene went to work for Katy National Bank and continued her employment there through three bank name changes, finally retiring 24 years later from Wells Fargo Bank at age 79. In February of 2011, Irene chose to leave her home of 60 years to move into the Carriage Inn of Katy. In August of 2012 when Irene needed a little more assistance, she moved to Heartland Healthcare in Austin and enjoyed spending more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her remaining years.
Irene was a very active member of Memorial Lutheran Church Katy teaching many Sunday school and Vacation Bible School classes. She was a charter member of the altar guild, sang in the choir and made calls to visitors. Irene was also a charter member of the Katy chapter of the German Society.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Hilmar Sr. and Minnie, her husband Victor, her sister Ruby and brother-in-law Tom Conley and niece Elaine Aberer, her brother J.
