YOUNG MOTHER DIES TUESDAY; 4 ARE INJURED:
"A 21-year-old mother of three daughtrers was killed and one of her children is in critical condition following a Tuesday evening wreck about three miles west of Cynthiana on White Oak Pike.
Mrs. Jeryl Whitson died in a Lexington hospital where she, her mother and two of her daughters were rushed after the accident. Mrs, Whitson was in the back seat with her youngest child.
In serious condition is eight months old Laura E. Whitson Her three year old sister, Karol Leigh, also was hospitlized with serious injuries. Kathy Reed Whitson 2, was treated at Harrison Memorial Hospital and released. Mrs. Whitson's mother suffered a possile leg fracture and other injuries.
The accident occured about 5:30 p.m. Sheriff Bill Hall, who wasn't called for nearly two hours after the mishap, said a witness, Mrs. Chester Faulconer, was following Mrs. Kathleen B. Palmer, when she began skidding on heavy ice.
Hall said Mrs. Palmer, heading west, regained control of her vehicle, slid again, then hit a bridge of Ky 356 and dropped 35 feet over a sharp embankment.
Mrs. Faulconer, seeing Mrs. Palmer crawl out of the auto, told her she would summon help. Two unidentified men finally drove by and rushed down the hill while Mrs. Faulconer hurried to a near by home to call an ambulance.
Apparrently no State Police were on duty in Harrison County at the time and Hall was directing traffic at a Harrison High School ballgame. Thus, he wasn't contacted until 7:30 p.m.
Hall said Mrs. Faulconer testified that Mrs. Palmer was driving at a safe rate of speed.
'The highway was very slick' he stated, 'in fact, it fooled you, looking at it, the blacktop appeared completely dry, but it wasn't.
The bridge is close to a dangerous curve which Hall described as awkwardly banked. The car was extensively damaged."

Linda was the mother of 3 daughters: Laura Elizabeth (d 1971); Karyl Leigh (Bryan) White; Kathy Reed (James) Tucker.
