What a beloved man – known and loved by all. Steven Dee Cox was born July 11, 1952 in Provo, Utah, son of Marvin R. Cox and Jeanine Robbins. He grew up in Springville and was an outstanding marksman, swimmer, diver, debater, eagle scout, fisherman, skier, projectionist, gardener, handyman, photographer, jeweler, business owner, financial manager, landscaper, motorcyclist, cow raiser, prankster, and service provider (especially to Jolly Dollies). There wasn’t any ‘hat’ he couldn’t wear. You might have even heard his voice many times out at the Pioneer Twin Drive-In, which his family owned, asking you to come into the “spacious” snack bar for food or treats.
Upon graduation from high school, he joined the National Guard and then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the London South Mission. He received a Bachelor Degree from Brigham Young University, then moved to Eugene Oregon for a while but was guided back to Utah to find and meet his eternal companion. He married Kathleen Wight on February 5, 1981 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He became an entrepreneur owning his own photography studio and jewelry store where he worked along side his wife for 30 years. His legacy was his two children whom he would sacrifice his time and talents for unconditionally. His favorite past times were serving others, riding his Harley’s and tooling around on his tractor. For the last few years, he had been suffering from chronic neck and back pain, which required multiple surgeries. As those around him saw him live through the pain admirably, he must have been struggling tremendously internally.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter and one son: Casey Dee Roberts (Marc) and Cameron Ray Cox (Dallas), 5 grandchildren whom he adored—Tate (13), Ellie (12), Talon (10), Kenna (7), and Owen (4); His mother, Jeanine Cox “the gma”; siblings Debby (Mike) McAllister, Peggy (David) Giles and Dave (Michelle) Cox, and brother-in-law Roger Merrill. His father, Marvin R Cox and his sister, Marva Ann Merrill, precede him in death. He was also kin to many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A viewing will be held at Nelson Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo on Thursday, March 28th from 6 until 8 p.m. Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 29th at the Riverside Ward Chapel located at 3511 North 180 East, Provo with a viewing preceding the funeral from 9:30 to 10:45. Burial will be held at the Springville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please hug someone and tell them you love them or do a service for someone just as Steve would do.
