Helen A. Long, 99 of Hanover passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Homewood at Plum Creek Retirement Center on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 8:30am. She was the wife of the late George D. "Spud" Long whom she married on June 27, 1942. Helen and Spud spent more than 58 years together until his passing on March 28, 2000.

Born September 11, 1922 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Claude H. and Lettie A. (Houck) Leese.

Helen worked at various jobs in the Hanover area including Hanover Shoe, Marshall's Diner, Browse a While Gift Store and 16 Plus. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill Auxiliary and AARP of Hanover.

Mrs. Long is survived by 2 children: Donald L. Long and his wife, Sandy of Hanover and Julie A. Groft and her husband, Jerry of Hanover; 3 grandchildren: Patrick Long and his wife, Jennifer of Lancaster, Christian Long and his wife, Angela of N. Ridgeville, OH and Ashley Becker and her husband, Corey of Glenville, PA; 7 great-grandchildren: Evan Long, Anna Long, Avery Becker, Hayley Becker, Kinley Becker, Brynley Becker and Mallory Becker; 2 nieces: Linda Rohrbaugh and her husband, Nev & families, Diane Hagarman and her husband, Mark & families; 1 nephew, James Leese and his wife, Nancy & families, as well as many other loving extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Claude Leese, Jr. of Hanover.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 5th at 11am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church; 5125 Grandview Rd.; Hanover, PA 17331 with Fr. Samuel Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Tuesday morning at the Church from 10am until the start of the Mass.
