Donald Lee "Donnie" Spencer, 74, of Charlottesville, passed away quietly at his home on Friday, March 15, 2019. Born on January 29, 1945, he was the son of the late John K. Spencer and Lozelle Spencer Mays. He was also predeceased by his stepfather, Cecil Mays; brother, Mike Spencer; and sister, Roxie Smith. Donnie retired from the Charlottesville Fire Department in July of 2004, after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he was employed by Enterprise for over 10 years. He is survived by his son, Donald "Randy" Spencer and wife, Tamara; daughter, Kimberly Wheeler and husband, Cary; four grandchildren, Laramie Shreve and wife, Annie, Cason Spencer, Madalyn Shreve and fiancé, Tyler, and Hallie Spencer; one great-grandson, Raiden Gray; three brothers, Larry Spencer, Ronnie Spencer, and Monty Spencer and wife, Pat; sister, Jean Johnson and husband, John; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Hospice of The Piedmont and their staff for their love, kindness, and support during our time of need. A special thank you to his daughter-in-law, Tamara who was his daily caregiver. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Meadows Presbyterian Church, 2200 Angus Road, Charlottesville, with Pastor Mike Weiglein officiating. Interment will follow at Alberene Cemetery in Esmont, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Teague Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of The Piedmont or The MSA Coalition at www.multiplesystematrophy.org.
