Ted Layman, Jr. 78, of Decatur passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 21, 2019.

He was born June 18, 1940 in Monroe County and graduated from Meigs County High School in 1960. He retired from Dupont with 35 years of service. He enjoyed estate sales, auctions, duck hunting, farming and spending time with his grandsons. He was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Ted Layman, Sr. and Bessie McNabb Layman; his brothers, Harold and Johnny Layman; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Kile.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Polly Kile Layman of Decatur; sons and daughters-in-law, Ted Layman III (Joye) of Decatur and Rodney Layman (Jawauna) of Harriman; grandsons, Nolan and Cole Laymen; step-grandchildren, Brandi Knox, Jim McHone, Jr, Evan McHone, Seth McHone and Josh Stevenson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don Layman (Linda), Dan Layman (Carolyn), Ed Layman (Tommie Kay); brothers-in-law, Dale Kile, Charlie Kile and Doc Kile (Betty); sisters-in-law, Sue Newman (J.B.), Phyllis Price, Lavone Kile and Jayne Kile.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Bowers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Bowers Funeral Home, Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 2 pm with Rev. Jamey Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Doug Price, Eric Kile, Mark Branham, Chris Kile, Jason Layman, and Heath Layman. Honorary Pall Bearers will be, Russell Caldwell, Steven Smith, Scotty Wiggins, Ritchie Layman, Jacob Kile, Ryan Kile and Joe Lawson.

In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
