(Facts gleaned from magazine WORLD WAR II, article 'War Letters' by Andrew Carroll from his project, The Legacy Project, to preserve & collect correspondence from America's wars.)

Elizabeth Jane Kivell wrote letters to a high school friend who was overseas during WWII, a Charles W.Faust. Two of his Navy ensign mates, Ensign F.Nye Moses, and Ensign William Bill Wilhoit, found one of her letters. They thought her beautiful & neat hand-writing, and sweetly perfumed letters, were sent by someone more wonderful than Paulette Goddard, Lana Turner, Betty Hutton and Ingrid Bergman. Thus, they wrote Elizabeth a letter and asked that she, '1st - fall in love with them; 2nd - write them a letter; 3rd - enclose a snapshot.' The story goes on to recount that, 'although Miss Kivell did respond, she was in love with - and would go on to marry - a pilot named Dale Leslie French.
