Jacqueline Andrews McMahon, 83, of Middletown, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. She was born June 29, 1929 on the Jersey Isle of England; Jacque was raised in Allenhurst, New York City and Florida by her parents, Lucile Menken and George H. Andrews.
Although most of her young life was spent travelling, she most cherished her time on Laneside Farm in Allenhurst riding her beloved horses. She kept her best friend and nanny Weesie very busy by doing things like getting caught in the laundry chute or riding her bike off a dock on Biscayne Bay. She gained her love of gardening and reading from Weesie but as much as Weesie tried to impart her baking skills she wasn't successful.
Jacque was booted out of Miss Harris's School, Miami, her junior year after she was caught sneaking back from Hialeah Race Track. Shipped off to Lennox School in NYC she developed a love of certain hangouts like the Stork Club and "21". She graduated from Finch Junior College with a degree in Commercial Art. One for adventure, she spoke of the time she accompanied the Italian bob sled team down the run or the time she was taken up in a glider in Switzerland - amazing, considering her fear of heights. Once she ventured up the high dive at Navesink Country Club and it took three lifeguards to get her down.
She met her husband of 58 years, Joe McMahon at the Allenhurst Beach Club. Together they built a life in Rumson where she was instrumental in the success of many charitable events including the Monmouth Park Charity Ball, Winter Glow Ball, MCSPCA events and Art for Arthritis Ball. She was a Board Member for the following: The Cancer Society, Children's Psychiatric Center, Monmouth County ARC and her favorite - Monmouth County SPCA. She and her husband were National Multiple Sclerosis Society local chairmen and founded the local celebrity golf tournament. Jacque was a member from childhood of Deal Golf Club and a founding member of Navesink Country Club. One of her favorite summer spots was sitting on the porch at Peninsula House with her BFF Marie Nash while they cheered on the swim team.
Jacque's life was not complete unless she had a dozen dogs and cats roaming the house. Big, small, and in-between she loved her dogs. Linus the goat could sometimes be found wandering down Rumson Road chasing joggers or jumping in the milk truck. Jacque had to buy her milk from the store after that. She and Joe lived in Florida during the 1980's before returning to NJ in 1990.
Fun doesn't begin to describe her. Her beauty was inside as well as out. She had great style and artistic flair. Her smile could light up a room and she knew the true meaning of friendship and loyalty. She was gracious and kind. A doting grandma, she adored her three grandsons.
Waiting for her in heaven are Joe; her infant sons, Geoffrey and John; her parents; cousin, Kenneth Menken; many friends, including Louise "Weesie" Yorg, Henrietta Washington and Samuel Ford; and lots of grateful dogs. Surviving are her daughters, Cee-Cee Capone and her husband Jeff; Cordie Adam and her husband George; grandsons, Peter Jeffrey Capone, Charles Joseph (Chase) Adam and George Tucker Adam. Also surviving is her beloved Golden Retriever, Andrew.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2 at the Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, The Bronx.
