Pioneer Tecumseh Physician Is Dead

TECUMSEH, May 15-(Special)-Dr B.L. Applewhite, pioneer physician of Tecumseh and eastern Oklahoma died here Friday after an illness of several weeks. The physician, who has lived here since the opening more than 40 years ago, was 91 years old. He had retired from active practice ten years ago. Doctor Applewhite practiced in the Indian Territory for a number of years before it was opened to the white settlement. He organized the first medical association in Oklahoma and was active in the society until a few years ago. He is survived by his wife and son, Dr. Gardner Applewhite of Shawnee, and two daughters; Mrs Margaret Chaney, head of the history department of Southeastern State Teachers college, Ada, and Mrs Alice Corn of Tucumcari, N.M. Funeral arrangements had not been made Friday night.

First married to Elizabeth R. Ball about 1867 in Mississippi. They were the parents of Herbert Locke Applewhite. Married secondly to Olive Harriett Rice and they were the parents of Gardner, Margaret R. and Olive Nannie.
