On March 15, 2019, 4:50 pm, our lives changed forever. Our beloved father, son, brother, and grandfather was carried into the loving arms of Jesus because he trusted Him as his Savior.

Howard Eugene Woods was born on Father’s Day, June 14, 1964 to Ernest and Karen Woods. What a great Father’s Day gift he was. He was an only child for nearly 4 years until Jesse, Wynelle, and Sarah came along. He was quite the big brother – ornery, silly, yet protective. Like his mom, Howard loved gardening. He joined FFA in junior high and loved everything “plants” – grafting, pollinating, and researching plants. His favorite plant was the Chicago Peace rose. In 1995, after a courageous battle, mom, Karen Woods, passed on. This was devastating to him. He loved her dearly. In 1966, he married and instantly became a step-father to Sally, and soon after a father to Karen-Louise, Eugene, Rosie, and later, Ruth. How he loved them. He would always say, “I’m the father of 5 amazing kids.” He instilled in them the importance of life after death and knowing Jesus as their Savior. Howard was closest to mom but grew closer to dad in recent years. He spent more and more time there as he worked on his “mail route cars.”

Howard loved to converse and quickly made many new friends at the post office. He loved to read, research, collect books, fix computers and gadgets, make up recipes, and cook. He was very knowledgeable about many things and had a great singing voice. He loved all of his family including cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews. Recently, he took steps to have a closer relationship with God.

He is survived by his father, brother, 2 sisters, 5 children, 3 grandchildren, 4 aunts and uncles, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mom, grandparents, aunt, and cousin.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Reservation Community Memorial Park at 11:00 am with a Memorial Service to follow at Calvary Baptist Church (903 W. Washington Ave.) at 1:00 pm. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.brooksidefhc.com.

Our father was the most warm-hearted man and he loved everyone. We know dad didn’t deserve what happened to him. We will cherish every memory with him and forever love, miss, and strive to be like him. We love you so much dad. Love, your kids.

“But they that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles.” Isaiah 40:31
