Lawrence E. Morris, best known as "Uncle Larry" transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ.
He was born to the late John Morris and Anna Belle Jeffries Morris on February 6, 1940. Born and raised in Red Bank, Larry attended Red Bank Public Schools. He was an all-around star athlete and was featured often in the local papers throughout high school. Upon graduation, Larry went on to attend Alabama State College where he was faced with great prejudice, bigotry and racial riots. Things became so unsafe the family had to work through church channels to get him home to safety. Soon thereafter, Larry joined the United States Army in 1961.
His civilian career started at MCAP and the Division of Motor Vehicles. In September 1968, he was a graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy 108th Municipal Class. Larry was a respectable and dedicated officer protecting and serving communities for 25 years. After retirement, he spent several years working with local school districts.
So many memories to hold on to. Larry was a respectful and distinguished gentleman. An astute officer arriving to holiday dinners in uniform just to be on time. A fun loving man that was either laughing or making someone else laugh. A protector of his family including many generations. A friend and confidant enjoying a meal at Amy's (Long Branch). He did not want anyone worrying about him so he rarely shared when he was having a bad day. Larry was unselfish, giving his time and attention to anyone that needed it. And we can not forget his witty sarcasm that came straight from the heart.
He is preceded in death by siblings John, Margaret, Doris, Ramon, Milton, Donald, Elton, Melvin, Ronald and Floyd. He leaves to cherish his memory sons Michael (Tinton Falls), David (Howell) and Lawrence Jr. (Neptune); granddaughters Camille S. and Jaime Morris (Neptune); sister Catherine "Lorraine" Overby (Tinton Falls); brother Walter "Dennis" Morris (Eatontown) and a grand host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
