Jim was born on January 4, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa and was soon after adopted by
his parents, Robert Austin Currie and Mignon Sharp Currie. The Currie family has been an
integral part of the history of Sac County for 145 years. Jim’s great grandfather, John Currie,
came to the U.S. from Scotland and settled in Clinton Township in 1874, preceded by only two
other settlers in Clinton Township, and Jim’s great-great grandfather and great-great
grandmother, Duncan and Alar Currie, joined John in 1877. Jim’s grandfather, Malcolm Currie,
was the first European American child born in Clinton Township and became a long-serving
attorney in Sac County and was elected to the office of County Sheriff and, subsequently, as
County Attorney, and Jim’s father, Robert, also served as an attorney in Sac City for his entire
career.

Jim completed an Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in Industrial Electronics Technology at
Iowa Central Community College. He had an active locksmith business in Sac City since 1971
and had also worked as an electrical technician at EVAPCO in Lake View, retiring in February
2019. In addition, he served for many years in the Iowa Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, rising to the
rank of Major and serving as Assistant Director of Emergency Services and Commander of the
Northwest Iowa Squadron, while also participating in the implementation of the 9-1-1
emergency system in Sac County and serving on the Sac City Municipal Airport Commission.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Malcolm and Clara Currie of Sac
City and William and Zora Sharp of Des Moines, and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by an uncle, Robert (Helen) Sharp of Johnston, Iowa and many cousins and good
friends, and he will be missed.
