Myrtle Lee Starling Mangum, 93, of Newport, formerly of Durham, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008.
Her funeral service is at 2 p.m. Monday at Hudson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Julian Motley officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mangum was a native of Sampson County, the daughter of the late B.T. Starling and Ida Sue Scott Starling. She retired from Duke University Medical Center. Prior to moving to Newport to live with her son, she lived in the in the Gorman community for 65 years and was a member of Gorman Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Forest Mangum, of Newport; her daughter, Vaughan De Leigh Baldwin of Laurel, Maryland; one sister, Pauline Pace of Durham; one brother, Uda Starling of Turkey; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erbie W. Mangum, a son, Erbie Mangum, Jr. and a daughter, Carolyn Fay Rigsbee.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Camp Willow Run, 190 Mangum Lane, Littleton, N.C. 27850. Arrangements are by Hudson Funeral Home of Durham.
