Judith M. Elkins, 78, of Martinsville, passed from this life on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Franciscan Health Hospice House in Indianapolis with her family by her side. Judy was diagnosed with cancer just two short weeks before her passing. Her life began on September 28, 1940 in Edinburg, Indiana. She was the only child born to the late Hansel and Jeanette (Brannan) Taylor.
Judy moved to Martinsville as a child and graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1958. She married the love of her life, Jon Russell Elkins on July 22, 1962; he preceded her in death on January 21, 2006. She was of Christian faith and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Martinsville.
A dedicated homemaker, Judy took pride in her children and home. Additionally, she was a hardworking produce farmer. She and her husband operated a produce stand at their home and sold at the Bloomington Farmers’ Market beginning in the 1970s until her husband’s passing. A gifted artist, she enjoyed oil painting landscapes and other nature scenes.
Judy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family including her daughter, Robin (husband, Jim) Surface of Martinsville; son, Jon David (wife, Beth) Elkins of Martinsville; grandchildren, Brittany (husband, Mitch) Gore of Indianapolis, David (fiancé, Katie Koozer) Elkins of Pikeville, Kentucky, and Ryan Elkins of Martinsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hansel and Jeanette Taylor and husband, Jon Russell Elkins.
In keeping with Judy’s wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated, and there will be no public services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville.
