Jess often testified of a wonderful place called Heaven, where there was no sickness or pain. He retired from N & W Railroad and was a member of United Transportation Union. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, George Cross and half-sister, Susan Whiteman.

Step-son: Duane Burdine and wife Hope
Son: Jerald Cross and wife Adrienne
Daughter: Jennifer Charles and husband Fredrick
One Grandson
Brothers: Willie Powell Cross, Jim Cross and wife Jeneva
Brother-in-law: Ray King
Sister-in-law: Phyllis King
Several nieces and nephews
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 25, 2008 at 8:00 PM in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eddie Zimmerman officiating.
The burial will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM in Johnson Cemetery.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:45PM prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his cousin, Betty Joe Leonard and husband Mike, who saw him through until the end, and his doctors, Phillip Claybrook and Matthew Beasey and his church family.
