Nelson was kind and considerate and took pride in caring for those around him. He enjoyed being in nature, hunting and fishing. He was particularly invaluable to his parents the last years of their lives. His family ties, Hamm, Houston, Huggins, Neill, McAlpin, Blasingame, Smith, Burks and Milligan among them, were grounded in the early settlers of McNairy County.
He is survived by his daughter, Alexandria Jane Hamm (Charles Arutt), a sister, Jacque Hamm May (Jim), niece, Elizabeth Hamm May-West (Susan) and twin great-nephew and niece, Henry James and Ila Elizabeth May-West, and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Robert Hamm, maternal grandparents, McKinley and Lettye Burks Smith and paternal grandparents, Eugene Robert & Ila McAlpin Hamm.
