Jerry Lee Newman passed away in Roswell, New Mexico on January 17 , 2019. Jerry was a combat veteran of the Viet Nam war serving with the U. S. Army. He was exposed to Agent Orange that created untold misery in later life. He worked as a house painter from the time he got out of the military until disabilities forced him to stop. He was a member of the Roswell Gun Club and immensely enjoyed shooting the metallic silhouette matches held there.

Jerry was an extremely friendly person who never had a bad word to say about anybody and although sometimes wracked with pain, hardly ever complained. Jerry was a generous person and never denied a person in need of help.

At the time of Jerry's death, there is no known relatives to claim his remains. He is survived by his best friend Harry Telesco, who often drove Jerry to the VA hospitals and clinics, delivered his medications, groceries, etc. when Jerry was too sick to drive. Jerry also had many other friends who will miss him greatly.

From what information his friends could put together, Jerry's Mother was named Alice Martin who passed away in the mid 1990s. He had two sisters, the youngest one, Nancy, died in an automobile accident in the 1970s or 80s. The oldest one, Judy, died in El Paso, Texas circa 2010. It is believed that his sisters did have children, but their names and location are unknown to those of us who try to put this memorial together.

Jerry's cremated remains were placed in General Douglas L. McBride Roswell Veterans Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico. It is altogether fitting and proper that he be there with other veterans.
