Miss Annie Lou Otting,age 70,of 12 Indian Trace Drive,Rome,Georgia,died Thursday morning,May 10,2007,in a local hospital.
A lifelong resident of Rome and Floyd County,Miss Otting was born on April 25,1937,the daughter of the late Robert Jefferson Otting,Sr.and the late Annie Mae Riggins Otting. Prior to retirement in 1992 Miss Otting was associated with Georgia Power for over 29 years. She was a 1955 graduate of Pepperell High School and a longtime active member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. Miss Otting was an active volunteer with several organizations including the Georgia Power Ambassadors, the Advisory Council for the Senior Citizens Center,Red Cross,March of Dimes and along wih her sister made over a 100 of turbines for the children who receive cancer treatments at the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Atlanta.
She loved to cook,work with flowers,and was an avid Gospel Music fan,attending as many local concerts as she could. In addition to her parents,Miss Otting was preceded in death by a sister,Rosetta Mathews and five brothers: Jack Edward Otting,Robert J. Otting,Jr.,Roy D. Otting, John W. Otting and Elbert M. Otting.
Miss Otting is survived by two sisters: June Otting and Sadie Ledbetter,both of Rome. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Miss Otting will be held on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Mount Olive Church with Rev. John Carroll and Rev. Jimmy Rampley officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours they will be at the residence.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Sunday by 2:30 p.m. and include David Brown, Gene Evans, Roy Homes, Jeff Oliver, Alfred Brumbelow and Richard Wooten. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Miss Otting was my aunt.
