Mary Rachel Simmons, age 95 of Murfreesboro, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at her home. She was born to the late Edgar Morris Smythia and Maggie Olen Avaritt Smythia.

She was a homemaker, a babysitter for many years, attended Assembly of Christ Church, and a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Jack Simmons; sons, William "Pete" Simmons and J.W. Simmons; daughter, Ada Jane Simmons; brothers, Jimmie Lee Smythia, Willie Smythia and Lester Smythia, and sister, Odessa Edwards.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances James, and son, David Simmons, both of Murfreesboro, seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sister, Rosa Robinson of California, and Dorothy Tanner of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Bobby Evans.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday, December 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Brother Jim Avaritt and Pastor Raymond Allbright officiating. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
