Ann Wallace Richardson, 81, formerly from Bluefield, WV, passed peacefully away on Sunday March 17, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family and dedicated healthcare providers. She had bravely battled Parkinson’s disease for more than 20 years.
Ann was born on May 18, 1937, in Northfork, WV, to William Ward and Maurine “Mimi” Elizabeth Sackett Wallace. Ann and her mother later moved to Bluefield where she graduated from Beaver High School. She married Jack Richardson on January 12, 1956.
Her work career included the General Telephone Company and the family business, Richardson Motors. Raising four very active children, she gained a great deal of practical experience in nursing and emergency medicine. Once the children were grown, she pursued a life-long dream in clinical nursing at Bluefield State College. Following her graduation with a degree in nursing, she worked at Bluefield Regional Hospital until her retirement.
For many years, Ann was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, in Bluefield, and participated in several different Women’s Circles. She was also an active member of the Bluefield Quota Club. For the past 10 years she and her husband Jack have lived in Jamestown, NC.
She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, loving and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren and especially teaching them how to fish.
Ann was preceded in death by her mother, father and stepfather, Russell B. Bodell.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, R. Jack Richardson; step-sister Lynda Bodell Gentry (Hal) of Old Hickory, TN; son R. Jack Richardson, Jr. (Debbie) of Jamestown, NC; son Rusty Richardson (Kathy) of Lebanon, TN; David Richardson (Donna) of Pickens, SC; daughter Julie Richardson Phillips (Richard) of Oak Ridge, NC; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will include Trey Richardson, Justin Richardson, Tommy Richardson, Ned Phillips, Cole Richardson, and Bruce Puckett. (Alternates could include Billy Carr, Eddie Putnam, Cooper Richardson, Mike Smith, Corey Sharpe, and Jimmy Rasche)
The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 19, 2019 from 6 to 8 at the Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Michael J.
