Son of Henry and Minnie (Damsky) Silverman. Magazine editor and publishing executive who collaborated with the Chicago Bears halfback Gale Sayers on a 1970 autobiography "I Am Third," a chapter of which was adapted into “Brian’s Song,” a 1971 television movie about the friendship between Mr. Sayers and his dying teammate, Brian Piccolo. He also wrote books about, or with, sports figures including Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio and Frank Robinson. He collaborated with Green Pay Packers running back Paul Hornung for his 1966 memoir, "Football and the Single Man." His last books were “It’s Not Over ’Til It’s Over: Stories Behind the Most Magnificent, Heart-Stoping Miracles of Our Time” (2002), and “The Time of Their Lives” (2008). He is survived by his wife, Rosa (Magaro) Silverman; sons, Brian, Thomas and Matthew; and seven grandchildren.
