Andrew Clayton “Flip” Barnett, age 53 of Pine Mountain Valley, Ga., passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange. He was born November 9, 1965 in Columbus, Ga., the son of John and Barbara Barnett.

“Flip” as he is affectionately known, was a unique and special person from the moment he was born! Everyone who knew him immediately loved him. If you spent any amount of time with Flip you would recognize that you were loved by a pure and unbiased heart. The corner of his eyes would crinkle, and he’d give you that infectious smile and you knew you’d made a friend.

Flip’s father was a military man, so relocating the family was a common occurrence. The Barnett family spent a few years in Fairbanks, Alaska, where Flip attended Birch School and then Harris County elementary school in Hamilton, Ga.

The years following, Flip spent many happy years living next door to his grandmother where she and he would sit on the porch swing and take walks together. He also enjoyed attending church at Oakside Baptist in LaGrange and listening to WOAK radio.

In 2005, Flip’s parents began attending New Covenant Baptist Church where Flip’s love for the Lord became very evident as he served as deacon, sang in the adult choir, and participated in the activities and functions of the church. He loved his pastor, Joel Chapman, and every member of his church family. As illness took over his body, getting to church became increasingly difficult but his loving mother took him as often as she was able.

Flip is survived by his mother, Barbara Barnett; his three sisters, Susan (Gary) Long, Heidi (Mike) Pickels, Marcie (Rick) Varnum, and sister-in-law Kim Barnett (the late John K. Barnett Jr.); plus, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Edna Barnett, and Clayton and Cleo Fender; his father, John K. Barnett, Sr.; his elder brother, John K. Barnett Jr.; and a sister, Brenda Barnett.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10 at New Covenant Baptist Church in Pine Mountain, Ga., with Dr. Joel Chapman officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery in Pine Mountain Valley.

Flowers will be accepted or those who desire may make memorial contributions to New Covenant Baptist Church.
