Mr. William Harrison Hess, age 86, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Friday (March 15, 2019) in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born January 2, 1933 in the River Mountain section of Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late William Jefferson and Eula Exie Whitt Hess and a lifelong resident of the area. A retired coal miner, he had formerly been employed by Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed watching westerns, but most of all sharing stories and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Honaker Hess, one grandson, Joe Foleno, three sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include five daughters, Cathi Hess and husband, Dean of Blackford, Becky Hess of Raven, Shelia Hess and husband, Rick of Honaker, Jeri Blankenship and husband, Rick of Lebanon, and Rachel Hess of Honaker; three sons, David Hess of Honaker, Bill Hess and wife, Pat of Swords Creek, and Clarence Hess and wife, Samantha of River Mountain; one sister, Daphne Stinson of Lebanon; one brother, Charles Hess of Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, Amanda, Adam. Alaina, Aaron, Daniel, Justin, Jordan, Brittany, Janey, Hannah, Morgan, and Nicole; fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Burke Hess officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be Darnell McGlothlin, Adam Hess, Aaron Hess, Justin Hess, Jordan Hess, Dave Hess, Darrell Harris, and Dakota Willoughby.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Sunday
