ANTHONY NASTASI, RETIRED DRIVER/SALESMAN

Anthony "Tony" Nastasi, a retired driver/salesman for Certo Brothers Distributing, died Wednesday (April 22, 1998) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.

Nastasi, 85, of 18th Street, was born in San Pier Niceto, Sicily, Italy, and came to Niagara Falls with his family in 1927.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, during World War II.

While in the service, he played the baritone horn in the U.S. Army Band and continued to play as a civilian. He was a longtime member of the Niagara Falls City Band and a member of the Greater Niagara Musicians Union Local 106-209.

He worker for the former Star Bottling as a driver/salesman for about 20 years and then as a driver for Wendt's Dairy in 1948. He then worked for Certo Brothers Distributing as a driver/salesman for the next 40 years.

In the 1950s, Nastasi was a member of bowling teams that won team and doubles championships. He enjoyed watching bowling and other televised sports.

Nastasi was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a charter member of the Fichte Focus Cataract Support Group.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, the former Margaret M. Tagliarini; two sons, Nat of Lewiston and Anthony Jr.; a daughter, Marguerite Briglio; two sisters, Carmela Antonucci and Marta, both of Sicily; and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Ave., following services at 10 in the M.J. Colucci and Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St.

Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
