Bess was born October 3, 1882 in Nebraska to Neil and Agnes (Stothers) McMillan. Her parents had both immigrated to the United States in 1871.

In 1900, Bess and her family were living on Washington Street in Blair, Nebraska. The 1900 US Census lists:
Neil, 58, head, day laborer, b. Oct. 1841 in Scotland
Agnes, 50, wife, b. Oct., 1949 in Canada to Irish immigrants
Margaret, 26, daughter, clerk post office b. Dec. 1873, NE
Bryce, 23, son, lumber salesman, b. Dec. 1876, NE
Wallace, 21, son, business salesman, b. Feb. 1879, NE
Bessie, 17, daughter, at home, b. Oct., 1882, NE
Bertha, 15, daughter, at school, b. Mar, 1885, NE
Agnes, 11, daughter, at school, b. Sept., 1888, NE

By 1900, her father had sadly passed away, but the family was still living on Washington Street in Blair. Margaret, now 35, was assistant postmaster at the Blair Post Office. Bruce, 33, was a rural route mail carrier. Bessie, 28, was working as a clerk in the Blair Post Office. Bertha, 25, was a saleslady in a dry goods store, and sister Agnes, 19, was helping her mother at home. Her mother, Agnes J., now 60, told the census taker that she had 7 children, and all 7 were still living.

Bess married Frank M. Holloway, and they were blessed with at least two children.

In 1920 they were living at 2436 Manderson Street , Omaha, Nebraska. The 1920 US Census lists:

BLAIRITE'S SISTER BURIED IN CALIF.

Mrs. Frank Holloway of Los Angeles, passed away last Friday, March 22nd and was buried at the Little Country Chapel in Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood. She is the former Bess McMillan.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty and Virginia of Los Angeles, and a sister, Agnes McMillan of Blair. Mrs. Bruce McMillan of Blair, is a sister-in-law.
