William Langston, s. of Rev. Nathan Langston and Catherine Smith, b. Dec. 2, 1787 prob. at Union County, South Carolina. He d. Aug. 20, 1859 either at or near Mansfield, Tarrant County, or at or near Lillian, Johnson County, TX.

In circa 1807 at South Carolina, William m. 1) Mary Yarborough. In August 1810 William was residing at Spartanburg County, SC; by August 1820 he was residing at Lincoln County, TN; and in June 1830 was residing at Clark County, IL. In 1831 and 1832 William purchased public land at Coles County, IL where during the 1830s he was a farmer and postmaster. The family is in the June 1840 and 1850 Coles County, IL censuses. Mary (Yarborough) Langston died at Coles County, IL purportedly in 1852. They had the following twelve children:

• i. Hiram Langston, b. Nov. 27, 1807 at Union County, SC, was living in June 1860 at Ellis County, TX; m. circa 1832, Mary Curry, b. Dec. 5, 1807 at Tenn. (poss. Maury County) and d. Mar. 31, 1878 at Palestine, Anderson County, TX. Seven known children of the family.

• ii. Catherine "Kate" Langston, b. Mar. 2, 1809 at Union County, SC, d. June 18, 1890 at Coles County, IL; m. Feb. 10, 1824 at Lincoln County, Tenn., John Elliott Crockett, s. of William Crockett and Rebecca Elliott, b. July 26, 1805 at Jefferson County, Tenn. He d. Sept. 16, 1855 at Shelby County, IL. Four known children of the family.

• iii. Nancy V. Langston, b. Sept. 14, 1811 at Union County, SC, d. Nov. 12, 1853 at Coles County, IL; m. Nov. 16, 1826 at Lincoln County, Tenn. as his first wife, John "Jacky" Ellis, s. of Jesse Ellis and Jane "Jennie" Elliott, b. May 19, 1806 at Jefferson (now Hamblen) County, Tenn. He d. Sept. 3, 1895 at Cumberland County, IL. Ten known children of the marriage.

• iv. Martha "Minta" Langston, b. Oct. 27, 1814 at Union County, SC, d. Aug. 29, 1845 at Coles County, IL; m. Mar. 28, 1833 at Coles County, IL as his first wife, Thomas Jefferson Curry, s. of James Curry and Mary "Polly" Ellis, b. Sept. 7, 1812 at Lincoln County, Tenn. He d. Nov. 1, 1901 at Coles County, IL. Seven known children of the marriage.

• v. Mary Langston, twin of Martha, b. Oct. 27, 1814; no further record known to the memorialist.

• vi. Nathan Langston, b. Nov. 3, 1816 at Union County, SC, d. Feb. 19, 1857 at Mattoon Twp, Coles County, IL; m. Dec. 8, 1836 at Coles County, Nancy Gray, who d. Mar. 4, 1873. Two known children of the family.

• vii. Thomas G. Langston, b. Sept. 27, 1818 at Lincoln County, Tenn.; was living with his parents in the 1850 census of Coles County, IL but no record found after 1850.

• viii. Rachel Langston, b. Jan. 11, 1821 at Lincoln County, Tenn., d. bef. June 1880 at Washington County, Arkansas; m. Nov. 4, 1844 at Coles County, IL, Robert Rightsell who was living in June 1880 at Washington County, Arkansas. Four known children of the family.

• ix. Jonathan Langston, b. Oct. 3, 1822 at Lincoln County, Tenn.; poss. the Jonathan Langston who m. June 9, 1850 at Lincoln County, Tenn., Eliza Woodall.

• x. Jesse P. Langston, b. Dec. 19, 1824 at Lincoln County, Tenn., was living in 1860 at Ellis County, TX; m. Feb. 16, 1850 at Coles County, IL, Emeline Gunterman. Three identified children of the marriage. In 1865 at Ellis County, TX, a "Mrs." Emeline Langston m. William Mayo.

• xi. Sarah Elizabeth Langston, b. Aug. 4, 1827 at Lincoln County, Tenn., d. July 21, 1898 at Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas; m. Feb. 28, 1849 at Coles County, IL, Thomas C. Curry, s. of Thomas G. Curry and Sarah Emmons, b. Apr. 13, 1826 at Harrison County, Indiana. He d. July 27, 1878 at Rogers, Arkansas. Seven known children of the family.

• xii. William J. Langston, b. Aug. 18, 1829 at Lincoln County, Tenn., d. Feb. 19, 1877 at Moultrie County, IL; m. Jan. 2, 1845 at Moultrie County, IL, Harriet O. Armenbrout. Six known children of the family.

On Jan. 25, 1854 at Coles County, IL (Coles Co. Marr. Rec.), William m. 2) Hester Massey, dau. of Joshua Massey and Elizabeth Ellis (latter the dau. of James Ellis and Sarah Riggs), and widow of Thomas Casstevens, b. Mar. 2, 1809 at Lincoln County, TN. She d. June 2, 1884 at Tarrant County, TX. There are no known children of this second marriage.

Thomas Casstevens and Hester Massey m. Aug. 16, 1826 at Lincoln County, TN and had nine children. Thomas Casstevens was b. May 7, 1804 at Surry, now Yadkin, County, NC and d. Aug. 16, 1852 purportedly at Cumberland County, IL. They are the patriarchs of the extensive Casstevens families of Coles and Shelby counties, IL and Johnson and Tarrant counties, Texas. Their children were: Jasper Marion, Louis Moore, Sarah, John Percy, Thomas Barksdale, Matilda Catherine, Joshua W., Elizabeth, and Nancy Emeline.

During the 1850s a large group of interrelated and extended Langston, Casstevens and Ellis family left eastern Illinois to resettle at adjoining southern Tarrant, northwest Ellis and northeast Johnson counties of Texas.

• x. Jesse P. Langston, b. Dec. 19, 1824 at Lincoln County, Tenn., was living in 1860 at Ellis County, TX; m. Feb. 16, 1850 at Coles County, IL, Emeline Gunterman. Three identified children of the marriage. In 1865 at Ellis County, TX, a "Mrs." Emeline Langston m. William Mayo.

• xi. Sarah Elizabeth Langston, b. Aug. 4, 1827 at Lincoln County, Tenn., d. July 21, 1898 at Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas; m. Feb. 28, 1849 at Coles County, IL, Thomas C. Curry, s. of Thomas G. Curry and Sarah Emmons, b. Apr. 13, 1826 at Harrison County, Indiana. He d. July 27, 1878 at Rogers, Arkansas. Seven known children of the family.

• xii. William J. Langston, b. Aug. 18, 1829 at Lincoln County, Tenn., d. Feb. 19, 1877 at Moultrie County, IL; m. Jan. 2, 1845 at Moultrie County, IL, Harriet O. Armenbrout. Six known children of the family.

On Jan. 25, 1854 at Coles County, IL (Coles Co. Marr.
