John Cass Barclay, 82 of Sweeny, went to be with his Lord and Savior February 28, 2017. He was born on December 7, 1934 in Sweeny, Texas to Cass and Berta (Gresham) Barclay.
John was a life-long member of the Sweeny community and Deacon of the First Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, March 3, 2017 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with John Price officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Sweeny. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Sweeny.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Barclay; daughters, Janet Slaughter and husband, Blaine; Denise McKay and husband, Mark; Karen Hester and husband, David; brother-in-law, Jack Poole; sisters-in-law, Jane Hamilton and Doris Poole; grandchildren, Lindsay, Jon, Cassie, Josh, Lance, Stephen, Jonathan, Steven, Aaron, and Brady; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; second mom, Kittie Bell Hamilton Barclay; brother, John Frank Hamilton; and sister, Bobbie Barclay McCann.
In the lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to First Baptist Church Mission Funds.
