Karen Lea Lawrence, age 45, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 16, 1971, in Kansas City, Mo., to Monroe G. and Anna E. Lawrence. Karen was a graduate of Fatima High School and Lincoln University. After graduating, Karen taught first grade at Russellville Elementary School for several years before becoming a program and membership specialist for Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland. She loved her work and the opportunities to teach and help people. When she was not working, Karen was creating art, playing video games, watching movies, and laughing at home with her family. Karen is survived by two sons, Liam Rivers of the home, as well as Logan and his wife Elaina Rivers of Jefferson City; her parents, Monroe G. and Anna E. Lawrence of Bonnots Mill, Mo.; a sister, Beth Lawrence of Torrance, Calif.; and her loving fiancé, Carl Rhoads. Karen's ashes have been placed in the garden mausoleum at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at a later date.
