Catherine Ann Tate, beloved wife of Dr. E. Gene Tate, died peacefully April 11, 2015, at home, in Lubbock, Texas. A celebration of Catherine's life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 45th and Memphis, with Dr. Andy Hurst officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Cathy was born to William and Claire Cheyne in Moline, IL, on July 31, 1930. She graduated from Moline High School and the University of Iowa. She met Gene while serving in the Red Cross as a social worker at Ft Leonard Wood, MO. They married Feb. 14, 1958, in Jefferson City, MO, and moved to Lubbock in 1968. Cathy was a longtime member of PEO and St Luke's United Methodist church. She loved her family, old movies, music, traveling, bridge, and sharing good food with family and friends. She entertained and delighted many with her gift of beautifully playing the piano by ear. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved daughter, Diane. In 1956 Cathy received a note from a 13 year old fellow passenger on a cross-Atlantic cruise declaring her the nicest person in the world. Throughout her life the many people she would meet and warmly connect with would agree! In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her memory to St Luke's United Methodist Church.
