Jackie "Jack" Ray Horton
September 6, 1949 - December 16, 2018

Jackie Ray ("Jack", "Papa Jack Bear") Horton of Allen, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Father Sunday, December 16, 2018. He was 69 years old.

Jack was born September 6, 1949 in Dallas, to Gerald Rayford Horton and Lula Faye Wiggins Horton, the youngest of their three children. A Boy Scout, he graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1967, and then attended The University of Texas at Arlington.

Jack spent many years overseeing and managing special events, hospitality and resorts food and catering operations and venues, beginning at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, where he met his future wife of four years, Sherry Edwards (now Reagan), with whom he had a daughter, Holly Angelle Horton, in early 1971. Jack's career led him to become the Director of Food and Beverages Services at Arlington Stadium following the arrival of the Texas Rangers Baseball Club in 1971. Later, he would serve as the Manager of Catering and Banquets for Holiday Inn Hotels in Houston. Jack also served in the Texas National Guard around this time.

After moving to California in the mid-1970s, Jack was employed by The Walt Disney Company as an Imagineer, and later was the longtime Director of Food Services and Event Planning at the company's Queen Mary Hotel and special-events venue in Long Beach. Following that, he served in a similar capacity for Sheraton Hotels and Resorts in Riverside, California.

During this period, Jack cared for many friends and family members in medical, physical, and financial need, including his nephew, Chuck, and his niece, Tammy, following the death of Jack's sister, Carolyn. This would be perhaps his life's most enduring mission: The care for and lifting up of family and friends.

Following the birth of his first grandchild, Rebecca Linn Cromack, in 1999, Jack came back to Texas and resided with his family: His daughter, Holly; Becca, and, later, his grandson Kyle, who was born in 2012; and his son-in-law, Rick Cromack. He was employed in various capacities by, among other concerns, Pat Summerall Productions, Pioneer Energy Company, and, most recently, for many years at Optimal Shipping and Logistics of Allen. He was widely respected for his dedication, wisdom, and leadership qualities in those pursuits.

Jack was a lifelong Christian, and was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, with his family, since 1999. He was an enormously involved member of his community, regularly contributing to the efforts of organizations such as Samaritan's Purse, and to educators with the Allen Independent School District. But his greatest joy and most enduring legacy was his involvement in the lives and activities of his grandchildren, Becca and Kyle. He was a fixture at Bolin Elementary, Rountree Elementary, Ford Middle School, the Lowery Freshman Center, Allen High School, and at Allen Sports Association events, as well as at the former University of Gymnastics in Plano, and at Pro Spirit of McKinney. As everyone's favorite "Papa Jack Bear", he was famous for his vocal support of his grandchildren and all youth, taking pictures with his faithful Polaroid camera, and making every moment of his and their lives fun, silly, and memorable.

Jack was the very model of a servant leader in Christ, and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who encountered him. He is now with his grandparents, parents, siblings, and nephew and niece, with the God he served so faithfully, and well. The loved ones he left behind take comfort in knowing that they will see him again, when we are all together with Our Lord and Savior, and our Father God.

The family will receive friends at a Visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Allen family Funeral Options, 2112 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Boulevard, Plano, Texas. The Faith Chapel will be open prior to the service starting at 9:15 A.M. Burial will immediately follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery in Lucas, Texas. And the family will host a reception following the burial.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Alsabrook of Allen, Rick Cromack of Allen, Bill Kasemervisz of Sugar Land, Josh McCormack of Allen, Rob Moseley of Lantana, and Gary Taylor of Allen.
