A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church in Cranford, NJ, on Wednesday, March 13, at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. Family and friends are invited to visit at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West, Cranford, from 9 – 10am Wednesday, prior to the funeral mass.
Bill was born and raised in the Fordham section of the Bronx by his parents, Michael and Mary McNamara. He was the youngest of their four children, and was predeceased by his sisters – Rita Nelson, Joan Barth and Lorraine Carstairs -- and their husbands Clifton Nelson, John Barth and William Carstairs.
He cherished his Irish heritage, was a proud veteran, an avid sports fan (particularly the NY Yankees), a voracious reader and a dedicated viewer of the History Channel. One of the highlights of his life was visiting Ireland with his sisters.
Bill spent the last 9 years of his life as a resident of the VA hospital in Lyons, NJ, where he was cared for with grace and compassion by their dedicated staff.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and their children. We will miss his sense of humor, generosity, and kind spirit.
