Clarke Jr. worked for American Cyanamid Company and for Drummonds Grocery Store. He also owned his own business, Bryant's Cash Store, in Madison Heights for twelve years. He loved sports, especially the Washington Redskins, and was an avid coin collector.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 57 years, Mary Iseman Thompson; one son, Anthony "Tony" and his wife, Glenda, of Madison Heights; two daughters, Sharon K. and friend, Amy, of Bay City, Michigan, and Lisa and friend, Stanley, of Madison Heights; three grandchildren, Brittany R. Barbour, Leslie D. Thompson and Catelyn G. Campbell; and one sister, Dianne Clarke of South Carolina.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, in Briarwood Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bill Meneeley. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home. The family requests you attend in casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center, 1701 Thomson Dr, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
