Paul graduated from Goshen College (1953) and Northwestern Medical School (1957). In 1962, following four years of voluntary service as a medical doctor in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Paul and Caroll June moved to Killbuck, Ohio where he served as the community’s primary physician for nearly 30 years. During that time he came to be known and loved for his gentle spirit and compassionate care for all those he encountered. In 1970 he was awarded Ohio Physician of the Year in recognition of his extraordinary service during a major flood the previous year. Paul was an active member of Millersburg Mennonite Church for more than fifty years, serving in various roles as Sunday School teacher for children and adults and elder. Paul was a person who lived his faith in friendship, service and generosity, befriending and reaching out to those in need. He volunteered many hours at Save & Serve (MCC) Thrift Shop, and enjoyed participating in service trips to various parts of the world. Paul was an avid gardener and gifted woodworker, who loved to make furniture, toys, and handmade gifts for his children and grandchildren. Though he was a quiet and humble person, he left a significant legacy in his family, his church, and his community.
