Joy Sellers Wilson passed away early Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2020. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home in Houston, Texas. Visitation will be in Houston at the Heights Funeral Home at 1317 Heights Blvd. Houston Tx 77008 Friday December 4, 2020 from 4pm to 7pm. The following day a graveside funeral will be in Hamilton Texas at the IOOF Cemetery at 567 N Rice Street, Hamilton Tx on December 5, 2020 at 11 am. Joy was born on September 8, 1930, in her family home, in the Lanham Community. She was the youngest child of Norman and Cora Sellers. Joy was the last survivor of her siblings and their spouses. Joy was preceded in death by her husband Charles Wilson and son Ronnie Wilson. She is survived by her daughter Teresa Wilson of Houston Tx , Daughter in law Lynn Wilson of Gatesville, Tx , Granddaughter April Emmons, and husband Mitchell Emmons of Katy Tx, Granddaughter Neta Wisehart, and husband Russell Wisehart of Gatesville Tx, Grandson Dalton Aguilar, and wife Jyssika Aguilar of Gatesville Tx, and Grandson Ty Aguilar of Gatesville Tx. Greatgrandchildren Jaymze Maxx, Maverick Marshall and Aurora Leigh Emmons of Katy Tx, Zayla and Zarah Wisehart of Gatesville Tx. Aiden and Koraline Aguilar of Gatesville Tx. Joy is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Joy graduated from Hamilton High School in 1950. She was offered a job with the State Welfare Office in Houston Tx. She moved to Houston in January of 1951. She met Charles Wilson in the spring and they were married December 24, 1951 in the Lanham Methodist church. Charles and Joy enjoyed 39 years of marriage. Their favorite pastime was hunting, fishing and camping. Joy stayed at home raising Teresa and Ronnie. When Ronnie was in high school, she began as a School crossing guard for the Houston Independent school district. She worked as a crossing guard for over 40 years until her first stroke in 2018. At retirement she was crossing 3rd generation students. She was also a fulltime employee of the National Boy scouts Retail shop in the Sam Houston Area Council building in Houston Tx. She retired after 25 years at age 82. She had served as a Boy Scout volunteer for over 45 years. As a volunteer she was awarded both the Silver Beaver award and the Religious Award Joy was the Historian for Grace United Methodist Church on Heights Boulevard and through diligent research was able to get approved, the Historical Marker, that is displayed in front of the church today. Joy spent her last years at home enjoying her yard and 2 German Shepherds who were her constant companions. She was a strong leader to her family and in her community. Her passing will be keenly felt by all who knew and loved her.
