Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1964 to 1968), he played at the running back position in the American and National Football Leagues with the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons. He played collegiate football at the University of Miami and Georgia Tech, prior to being selected by the Los Angeles Rams during the 5th round of the 1963 NFL Draft. He ended up with Buffalo and during his years with the Bills, he experienced two world championships (1964 and 1965). Auer was a member of the Miami Dolphins' inaugural team (1966) and achieved the distinction of scoring the first touchdown in the franchise's history, when he returned a 95 years kickoff. After retiring from football, he founded a race car engineering company.
