Race Car Driver. He grew up near the Salem, Indiana speedway and "got racing in his blood." He participated in both USAC and NASCAR competition. He qualified for the 1962 Indianapolis 500, but was "bumped" from the starting field by a faster qualifier. Jacobi suffered profound head injuries in an accident at the Daytona International Speedway on February 17, 1983 and never recovered. He remained in a comatose state for nearly 4 years. One of Salem's "favorite sons," many of his racing memorabilia are kept at the Stevens Museum in Salem.
