Mr. George Thomas Poole, age 70, a resident of 304 Newell Street, Roxboro, NC, departed this life on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in the VA Hospital in Durham. He was a member of Mill Hill Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Agnest Poole of the home; nine children: Oneisha Poole, Kimberly Poole, Denise Hamlett, Wonsalean Nelson, Winston Nelson, Jr. (Dawn), Tracy Nelson (Melita), Shekeater Winstead (Tony), Herbert Nelson and Shirleta Nelson, all of Roxboro; four brothers: Floyd Poole, Jr. and Vestal Poole both of Whitesville, NC, Australia Poole of Springfield, KY and Robert Poole of Durham, NC; two sisters: Hattie Sumpter of Queens, NY and Eula Poole of Virginia; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other additional relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 2:00pm at Mill Hill Baptist Church, 1635 Mill Hill Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27574 with the Rev. Frederick K. Wilson, pastor, officiating and providing the eulogy. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
The body will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service.
