Nathan Scott Gray, age 41, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 7th, 2019, from complications of ALS, at Methodist Hospice Residence, in Memphis, TN at 9:50 p.m. Prior to his death he was lovingly cared for by his father and stepmother, in Olive Branch, MS.
Nathan was born in Memphis, TN, September 8, 1977, to Janet (Lane) Gray and Murray Scott Gray. He was their second child following a daughter, Stephanie Diane Gray, in 1976. Nathan was a graduate of Southaven High School in 1996 and completed an Associates Degree at Northwest Community College in 1998. From the age of 16, he worked part-time for a variety of companies in Southaven until he found his “work home” at Home Depot. His dedication and incredible work ethic brought him from flooring sales and installation associate to eventually becoming a full store manager at the Riverdale Home Depot location.
In 2006, Nathan married Sally Elizabeth Redmon in a beautiful Hawaiian setting. They moved to Arlington, TN three years later and welcomed a daughter, Nathalie Elizabeth Gray, in 2009, and a son, Griffin Scott Gray, in 2012. Marriage and fatherhood were his highest priorities.
Nathan suffered a serious and unexpected health challenge in 2013 from which he recovered with great effort, but he was unable to return to work because of a remaining disability. He then devoted his time to helping his family and church.
He is survived by his children, Nathalie and Griffin, his father, Murray Scott Gray, his stepmother, Beth (Slinkard) Gray, his mother, Janet (Lane) Engelke, his stepfather, Edwin Engelke, his sister, Stephanie (Gray) West, and brother-in-law, Michael West, his maternal grandmother, Patsy Lane, his aunt, Lisa (Lane) Roberson, his uncles Andy Lane, Frank Lane, Jr. and Gary Lane, and multiple cousins. He is preceeded by his paternal grandmother, Ruth (Litten) Gray and grandfather, Quentin “Pete” Gray, and his maternal grandfather, Frank Lane.
