CHARLESTON - Patricia Kenney Creighton, 86, of Charleston, and wife to the late Charlie Scattergood Creighton, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016.

Pat was born in Augusta, Georgia on November 10, 1929 to the late Charles and Louise Smith Kenney and grew up in Aiken, SC. She attended Furman University and graduated from Winthrop College. Her teaching career impacted students from Virginia to Aiken, Florence and Charleston County schools. She taught at the public schools on James Island and then at Ashley Hall until retirement.

Pat was very active in the community, working with Historic Charleston Foundation and various art galleries. She enjoyed her many friends, especially the "Smelly Crowd" of the Morrows, Daniels, Carters, Rollins, Thornhills and Miles families, as well as all the people she met while living in her beloved Charleston. She loved the Lowcountry and spent the last four years in Beaufort near her daughter. She was always a very open-minded person with an eclectic group of friends and was very close to her first cousin, Ed Kenney of Virginia and sister-in-law, Dorine Smith of North Augusta.

Pat was an avid reader and loved gardening, walking, and playing Scrabble. Her favorite memories were of spending time with her family in Vermont, the mountains of North Carolina and her hometown of Aiken. Pat loved the companionship of her many dogs over the years, especially her "Pippin" - "the best gift I ever received!" She was an exceptional and precious mother, grandmother, wife, sister, teacher and friend and will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by her children, Trish Creighton Edwards (Eddie) of Chapin, SC, Kenney Creighton (Sherry) of Aiken, SC, Martha Creighton Upchurch (Mike) of Beaufort, SC; grandchildren, Josh Edwards (Anna), Emily Berry (Jordan), Chase Edwards (Leann), Sloane Convey (Bobby), Michael Upchurch (Alysia), Ellis Hubbard (Jason), Hannah and Adam Creighton, Elijah DeBeaugrine, and Lindsey Segal; great-grandchildren, Hardin, Margaret and Quin Edwards, Mac and Milly Berry, Creighton Edwards, Grey Convey, Vaughn and Painter Hubbard, Quinn Upchurch and Fletcher Crawford, Banks Creighton; and special nieces.

In addition to her parents and her husband of sixty years, she was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Ann Christensen.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel, beginning at 11 AM. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935, or an animal rescue organization of your choice.

The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude and thanks to the physicians and staff of Beaufort Memorial Hospital, River Oaks Assisted Living, Friends of Caroline Hospice and Griswold Home Care for their care and support given to our mother and family.

"I love you to the ends of all the roads and to the moon and back."

Arrangements were entrusted to McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, 843-614-8494.
