Donald L. Dykes, an 18 year resident of Loveland, died Thursday, February 14, 2019, on Valentine's Day, in Loveland. Born in 1932 in Liberal, KS, to Forrest and Ruth (Crews) Dykes. Don graduated from La Crosse High School in La Crosse, KS. He attended St. John's Military Academy and Brown-Mackie Business College in Salina, KS. Don served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired from Samsonite Corporation in 1994 at age 62. In 1957, Don married Arlene Jones at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in La Crosse, Ks, they honeymooned in Colorado. The couple lived in Wichita, Great Bend and La Crosse before welcoming two children.

Don and Arlene moved to Hutchinson, KS where Don worked for Cessna and they owned Dykes' Children's Clothing on Main Street. In 1968 they moved to Denver, Don secured a position with Samsonite Corporation. Don and Arlene enjoyed many years in Mesa, AZ after they retired. He enjoyed model airplanes, landscaping, mechanical repair, tinkering with his Spitfire, and visiting neighbors.
