Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Private, Company F, Independent Pennsylvania Light Artillery. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on the Second Day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (July 2, 1863). His citation reads "Saved a gun of his battery under heavy musketry fire, most of the horses being killed and the drivers wounded". His Medal was issued on December 21, 1892.
