John was the son of Oakley and Sarah Frances (Sadie) Hicks Clark. He married Bessie M Wade in Monmouth, Warren Co, Illinois on 11 October 1911. Her parents were George and Mary Butler Wade. John and Bessie had eight children: George Oakley (or Oakley George), Charles Wilbur, Lucille, Kenneth Edward, Warren Douglas, Maxine Marie, Dean Howard and Beverly Ann.
John was killed in an automobile accident. He was riding in a car driven by Roy Seger and it crashed nearly head-on with another car. Packed snow and icy road conditions were prevalent throughout the county that day. (Roy Seger and his wife are also buried in this cemetery. He died in 1993.)
