Mr. Jerry C. Reid, 83, of Jayess, MS passed away on March 6, 2019 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Jerry was born November 20, 1935 in Lawrence County to JC and Josie Miller Reid.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Brister Reid of Jayess, as well as his children, Lisa Reid O’Rourke of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Cliff Reid (Cathy Cecil) of Pensacola, Florida, and Rebecca Reid Graves (Kenny Graves) of Jayess, MS. Other survivors include, grandchildren: Sally O’Rourke of New York City, Reid Graves and Kyle Graves of Jayess; siblings: Miller Reid (Dot Reid) of Jackson, Patty Caranna of Biloxi, and Donald Reid (Diane Reid) of Monticello; sisters in law: Betty Brister Deavers and Bonnie Brister Givens (Louis Givens) of Jayess. He also leaves much loved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents JC and Josie Miller Reid.

Jerry spent 48 years in a multitude of roles at Southwest Mississippi Community College, including: Student Athlete, Teacher, Coach, Alumni Association officer, SMCC Foundation Board of Directors, and Administrator. As the faculty representative, he directed the Alumni Association’s main fundraiser, the football concession stand.

He was honored to be inducted into SMCC’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. He and his wife Eleanor were named Alumni of the Year in 1994. In 2011, he was inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame. Jerry loved his coworkers and friends from SMCC that became family.

While he lived in Summit, he was an active member of Summit United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for over 30 years.

When he retired to Jayess, Jerry and Eleanor joined Tilton United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee and member of Administrative Council.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2019, from 5 PM to 8 PM at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello. The visitation will be continuing at Tilton United Methodist Church Saturday, March 9, from 9 AM until service time at 11 AM, with Graveside Service to follow in Tilton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverends Creighton White, Kevin Tranthum, and Diane Woodall will officiate services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
