Miller, Mrs. Ramona Brown, of North Chesterfield County, Va., died October 17, 2018, at the age of 69. Ramona was born January 8, 1949, in Ahoskie, North Carolina. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Ramona was the only child of Bruce Brown and Annie Mae Overton Brown, also of Ahoskie. After her mother passed away, her father was married to Irene Dollar Brown. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James W. Miller; her son, Mark B. Miller; her daughter, Carter E. Miller: and her grandson, Miles Miller. Ramona had many friends that she considered family, including the Raffertys. She claimed Aidan and Rylan as her grandchildren. Ramona graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina. After graduation, she married Jim and they moved to Richmond. Ramona loved books and reading and she continued her education in library science at VCU. As a librarian for Chesterfield County Schools, she loved her students and touched many of their lives in a positive way. Her willingness to help students, teachers and her schools helped to make her well-respected and led to many friendships. Ramona served as a president of the P.T.A. at A. M. Davis Elementary School when her children were enrolled there, and she was a frequent volunteer. And yes, she was one of the few people who were small enough to fit into the school mascot "Dragon" costume. She opened the library at Monacan High School in 1979. She also held a librarian position at Matoaca High School and completed her career at Midlothian High, where she sponsored the Spirit Club and supported many student events.
Ramona, a member of St. David's Episcopal Church, left the world a better place than she found it by welcoming into her life and home any friends and pets who needed love and support.
At Ramona's request, a Celebration of Life was held at Harvest Glen Clubhouse on November 3. A private burial will be helfd in Hollywood Cemetery at a later date.
