Janice Lee Walker Sutton, 86, passed away on September 18, 2017 in Destin, Florida surrounded by her children and extended family. Jan and her husband, Sam loved living in Destin and made their home here for 43 years. They enjoyed “get togethers” with their extended family and RV trips throughout the United States.

Janice was born in Washington, D.C. living there until she was in high school. She then moved to Raleigh and then to Spring Lake, NC where she met and fell in love with Sam. They married in 1950 and would have celebrated their 67 years together on the day of her passing. Sam’s Air Force career would take them to North Carolina, Alaska and finally to Okaloosa County, Florida where Janice worked as a school secretary. Throughout the years, Jan was active in her churches as a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and women of the church and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Over the years, she and Sam were often seen square dancing and traveling in their RV with friends across the country and with the camping club. She was the artistic half of their woodworking business for many years. Jan always greeted everyone with a smile and made them feel special.

Janice leaves behind her daughter and son in law, Jan and Dave Robinson; son and daughter in law, Sam and Bonnie Sutton; two sisters and their husbands, Mickie and Harold Moody and Joan and Jeff Miller; grandson, Tony Sutton; great grandson, DJ; sister in law and husband, Caroline and Cal Tenhet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Samuel Sutton, and her parents, Patricia and Norman Walker.

A memorial service to honor Janice’s life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Destin. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 200 Grand Blvd., #205, Miramar Beach, FL 32550; or to the First Presbyterian Church of Destin, 154 Calhoun Dr., Destin, 32541.
