Died: March 3, 2019
Current City: Brentwood, Tennessee
Billie Dove Simmons passed away March 3, 2019. She was born in Trezevant, Tennessee January 3, 1929 to the late Lucille and Earl Notgrass. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Julian Simmons, and a sister, Dorothy Mallard. She leaves a legacy of service, love and faithfulness to her family and her many friends.
In the words of a Granddaughter: “Dovey had big blue eyes and the sweetest smile. She lived a life that was good, kind and generous. We will try to model our lives as she lived, by holding on to this world loosely while working hard but not making work our life. Every day we will tell our children how much they are loved and try to perfect her tomato relish recipe along the way. Dovey asked for so little but the legacy she leaves is so Big. We know Papa kicked his leg high in heaven when he saw her sweet face.”
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Milan, Tennessee where she lived until she moved to Brentwood in 2013.
Billie “Dovey” is survived by her daughters; Julie (George) West, Sally (Tommy) Davis and her son Brad (Rhonda) Simmons; grandchildren, Mary Virginia (Chet) Frist, Allen (Emily) West, Emily (Michael) Sutherland, Kane (Kendall) Simmons, Logan (Logan) Simmons, Ben (Rebecca) Davis and Ellen (Jimmy) West; twelve great-grandchildren and three sisters; Lucy Holmes, Betty Ebert and Brenda Weatherford.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at Brighton Gardens for their wonderful care and support.
A service for family will be held at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
