Hila V. Steel was born Oct. 8, 1867, in Mahaska County, Ia., and died at Cedar, Ia., Apr 26, 1896. She was married to Geo. E. Steel, Feb. 18, 1891.
She leaves her husband and two children to mourn her loss. She was converted and united with the Episcopal church at the age of twelve. She began teaching in the Sunday school when quite a young girl, and continued active in Christian work to the end of her life. Three weeks before her death she gave her little son and daughter to the Lord in Christian baptism. She did all she could to teach them the way of peace and salvation. All who entered the sacred precincts of her friendship knew what a dear friend and beautiful Christian she was. No one could be sad in her presence. The funeral service took place Tuesday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at the home of the deceased three miles south of Cedar. The sermon was preached by her pastor, J.M. Hoober, from Psalms 28:7. The interment took place in the Kirkville cemetery. She was the daughter of R.W. and Mary C. Moore, of Cedar, Iowa.
