Wesley E. Terry December 4, 1951 - November 3, 2018

Wesley Eugene Terry was born on December 4, 1951 to Frankie and Theresa Terry at Hamilton Air Force Base in Hamilton, CA. When he was 3 years old, the Terry family moved to Atwater, where Wes would grow up and later settle down and have a family. Wes was a truck driver for 47 years.
He had an uncompromising work ethic, and was affectionately known as "Big Strap" by his family. In his younger days, Wes loved riding motorcycles. As he grew older, he found a renewed passion for the Lord, and committed himself to his church and doing God's work. Throughout his entire life, Wes enjoyed working out and lifting weights. He was always seen wearing sleeveless t-shirts, and he would proudly flex at the slightest encouragement. Wes had a contagious personality and infectious sense of humor, and he loved to make everyone laugh. He was well known for giving nicknames. He tended to have his own unique vocabulary and terms for things, which his family fondly called "Wes-isms." Wes was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell metastatic lung cancer in January of 2018. He underwent 6 months of chemotherapy, which he sailed through with no side effects practically unheard of for the type of treatment he received. His medical team at Stanford dubbed him the "poster child" for chemo. Following chemo, he received radiation therapy. Shortly thereafter, he began experiencing complications related to his preexisting pulmonary fibrosis, which is what would ultimately be the cause of his last hospitalization. Wes fought courageously and with grace and dignity up until the very end. He passed peacefully in his sleep on November 3, 2018.

Wes was preceded in death by his father Frankie Terry and daughter Stacy Terry. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Brenda; mother Theresa Terry Leasure (Paul); brothers Allan Terry (Sheila), and Moochie Terry (Blanca); children Tanya Terry, Heather Wilson (Charles), Tim Webb (Amy), Brooke Terry, Kayla Serratto, Dane Cherry, Joe Bustamante (Denise), and Sonja West (Derek); 12 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

He leaves behind a large extended family, and countless friends who love him like family. Wes was one of a kind. He was the most generous, selfless, thoughtful, charismatic, kind, sincere, big hearted man. He was loved by all who knew him as he would say, "What's not to love?". Life won't be the same without him, and he will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 10 am at First Baptist Church, 1683 Fifth St. Atwater. A reception will immediately follow at 11:30 am at VFW Hall, 1390 Broadway Atwater. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Wes name to his church: First Baptist Church, 1683 Fifth St. Atwater, CA 95301.
