Crossed the Plains with his wife and two young daughters - arriving at the Jeremiah Ralston homestead ( who at the time had the only house in the future site of Lebanon and the first store). John rented a log cabin from Mr Ralston until he could get settled on his own DLC.

John W. Bell is noted as the first Postmaster appointed to this area when Lebanon was known as Washington Butte.

First married Lurana Nickerson March 27, 1842 in Morgan County, Ohio.
Father of three daughters - Rebecca, Caroline and Emma (born Lebanon, Or).

After the death of Lurana, he remarried in Linn County, Or in 1886 to a young lady named Viole C.. She was born June 1861 in Iowa. They are together on the 1900 Census for Lebanon, Or. They had a son, John Adelbert Bell born Oct 1, 1893 at Tallman, Linn County, Or. He died March 19, 1957 at Selma, Fresno County, California.
